Born in Poland, tenor Piotr Buszewski began his studies at the Fryderyk Chopin Music University in Warsaw. He then continued his education at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecillia under Renata Scotto, followed by the Juilliard School in New York City. He is currently finishing his Residency at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, where this season he will appear in the role of Prince in Rusalka, Ferrando in Così fan tutte and Roméo in Roméo et Juliette. Also this season, Mr. Buszewski will appear as Leandre in Le médicine malgré lui with Odyssey Opera in Boston and Tybalt in Roméo et Juliette with Cinncinati Opera. At the end of this year, he will make his European debut in the production of L'elisir d'amore at the Leipzig Opera as Nemorino.
In the previous season, Mr. Buszewski made his professional debut in the American premiere of Donizetti's Il Pigmalione at the New York City Opera. He also appeared as Il Duca in Rigoletto at the Filene Center with Wolf Trap Opera as well as Loge in Das Rheingold at the Academy of Vocal Arts. Mr. Buszewski's operatic repertoire also includes the roles of Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Ernesto in Don Pasquale, and Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi. Equally comfortable in oratorio repertoire, Mr. Buszewski recently made his debut in Berlioz’ Te Deum with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and Kurt Weill's Die sieben Todsünden, a concert which was co-produced by the Hong Kong Ballet and Wolf Trap Opera.
Mr. Buszewski was among nine finalists of the 2019 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. In 2018 he won the Third Prize and the Accademia Teatro alla Scala special award at The Leyla Gencer Voice Competition. In 2017 Mr. Buszewski received the First Prize in the Mario Lanza Competition, Second Prize in the Giargiari Belcanto competition, Third Prize at the Gerda Lissner international Vocal Competition and received an honorable mention at the Loren L. Zachary Competition. In 2016, he received the Third Prize in the Zinka Milanov International Competition in Croatia, as well as a special prize in the Otto Edelmann Voice Contest in Vienna. In 2015, Mr. Buszewski received the Second Prize in the Marcella Sembrich International Competition and the competition organized by the publishing house Hal Leonard. He is a student of Bill Schuman.
